David Applegate New Director of the U.S. Geological Survey

He brings 26 years of geological experience to position.

On Monday, Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland swore in David Applegate as the new Director of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Applegate has been a geologist since 1996, and first joined the USGS in 2004 as a Senior Science Advisor. He has been serving as the acting director of the USGS since January 20, 2021, but was nominated by President Joe Biden to serve as its official director on March 8, 2022.

“I am deeply honored to have been nominated by President Biden and confirmed by the U.S. Senate to lead the USGS and carry out our critical mission,” said Director Applegate. “Now more than ever — as changes in the natural world, along with growing human demands, put health and safety, national security, and economies at risk — science from USGS will play an indispensable role in the well-being of our nation and planet Earth.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Director Applegate as he assumes his new role and duties.
  • That Secretary Haaland would seek God’s direction as she leads the Interior Department.
  • For discernment for the president as he nominates and appoints people to positions in his administration.
